Screeching seagulls, slightly rocking masts and the rustle of the waves remind me of the picturesque little harbours on old pictures. The wind takes me back to beautiful places and panoramas where only the ship can take us. Where will she lead us this time? Step on board or read on
When the wind changes and the tide turns, the Eendracht sets sail to her next destination. It was an exciting and enervating trip to Ameland and whilst our skipper focuses on his course, the last sunrays of the day slowly sink under the horizon. The water rhythmically rustles along the hide of the ship and slowly our adventure takes another turn.
Sailing holiday on the Waddensea, IJsselmeer and Frisian lakes

The smell of fried salmon finds its way through the portholes. Unknown waters lead us to old small harbour towns and idyllic sandbanks. On the foredeck, silently new friendships are made.

We've cast off. There is a strong wind and to our left the sun is slowly sinking under the horizon. My first miles at sea are behind me and for the first time in my 25 years of paid employment me and my colleagues are literally in the same boat. We even sleep in bunkbeds! Maurits has just piloted us out of the harbour and show us how the ship is to be sailed. We set sail and get a tour on deck. The theme of our first evening is getting to know each other and to get a feeling of the ship. Who are our fellow-crewmembers, what are we doing here and how are we doing? The first mental question marks have been put down.

Feeling a bit uncomfortable, we look at each other trying to find something to talk about. Before we can even get into a discussion, the deckhand summons us to come to the foredeck. There is work to be done. Shortly after, as we take our seats again in the cockpit, laughing, red cheeks and glowing fingers, the conversation is just there. Together we hoisted the foresail and the ice is broken.
